Hydrographic Survey in the harbor

May 16, 2025

Notice to Mariners No. 01 of 2025
To: All Masters, agents and ship owners
Date: 16 May 2025

Subject: Hydrographic Survey Operations – within Port Vila Harbor

  1. Mariners are hereby advised that a hydrographic survey will be conducted in the Port Vila harbor area from 2 June to 15 June 2025.

  2. This is a UK-led survey, conducted under the direction of a Royal Navy Category A Hydrographer. The operation is supported by the Vanuatu Maritime Safety Authority, the Fiji Hydrographic Service (FHS), the Pacific Community (SPC), the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN), and representatives from Papua New Guinea.

  3. All shipmasters, shipowners, shipping agents (both foreign and local), marine pilots, port operators, marinas, yacht clubs, and mariners are reminded to exercise due care and caution during the survey period. Please observe safe navigational practices and maintain a safe distance from the survey vessel and equipment.

  4. This survey forms part of the Government of Vanuatu’s recovery efforts following the recent earthquake. It is a key measure to ensure safe navigation within the harbor, contributing to the uninterrupted delivery of essential services and the safety of maritime operations.

  5. Upon completion of the survey, an updated Marine Notice will be issued with relevant outcomes or further instructions.
