Vanuatu Celebrates International Day for Women in Maritime
Vanuatu proudly joined the global maritime community in commemorating the International Day for Women in Maritime, observed annually on May 18, with a vibrant celebration recognizing the vital contributions of women in the sector.
Hosted by the Vanuatu Maritime Safety Authority (VMSA) in partnership with key stakeholders, the event brought together maritime professionals, students, government officials, and development partners under the global theme “An Ocean of Opportunities for Women.”
The celebration featured inspiring panel discussions and storytelling sessions that highlighted the achievements, challenges, and aspirations of women across all levels of the maritime industry in Vanuatu. Participants also engaged in awareness activities focused on gender equity, maritime career pathways for girls, and the revitalization of Vanuatu’s maritime institutions, promoting equal access to maritime opportunities for all.
This annual event reflects Vanuatu’s commitment to the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) efforts to raise the visibility and participation of women in the global maritime sector.
